A bubble shaped shelf from glass, to show your precious objects.
With the fascination to show beautiful, funny or precious objects, Studio Thier&vanDaalen launched this design. An intense coloured shelf, made entirely from glass. In this design we combined traditional crafts with modern technology.
The glass blown shelfs are free shaped bubbles, therefore every piece is unique. Mirrored glass follows the outline of the organically shaped bubble. One material, two different worlds. On one hand the traditional craftsmanship of freehand glassblowing and on the other hand digital CNC possibilities with sheet glass.
The added bubble in front of the mirror will create an unique effect of depth and intense colour. Because of the natural strength of the material, you can place an object on the flat surface, as if your souvenir floats on a bubble! We were triggered by the beautiful and bright colours available in freehand glassblowing, therefore we wanted to develop a series to investigate and play with these colours and shapes.
These mirrors are hand blown and CNC cut in the Netherlands and every piece is unique. The sizes are approximately 28 x 28 x 15 cm and in time more colours will be available.
