A series of wall lamps that originated from their love for the craft of glass blowing, in which a new glass object always starts with a bubble. A dynamic and fragile basic form in which there is all the potential of the desired object yet to be made.
This simplistic and strong form appeals to the designers. For this design, the studio has managed to freeze the tension of the material in the process, by flattening the convex shape on one side, leaving the overall shape untouched. Because the glass is handblown freely and not in a mould, each piece is unique, yet part of the family. When you look longer you see the difference in thickness, colour intensity, size, but especially in character!
Within these differences, the challenge was to design a ‘universal’ light element, which could be placed through the small opening of the bell.
The light element developed by the studio is flexible and thus follows the inner shape like an infinite loop. Due to the subtle appearance of the light, inner reflections, layering and colour are radiated through the glass on the environment, separating the wall light from the background.
Bulla is a combination in which craft and technology come together. The subtle suspension hook and light element were developed by the studio to emphasise the strong, simplistic shape of the glass. The light element runs like a loop of flexible LED light into a 3D printed holder. In particular the parts are produced local and sustainable.

Een serie wandlampen die voort gekomen is uit ‘liefde’ voor het ambacht glasblazen, waarin een nieuw glasobject altijd begint bij een ‘bel’. Een dynamische en fragiele basisvorm waarin alle potentie zit van het nog te realiseren object.
Deze simplistische vorm en eenvoud spreekt de ontwerpers aan. De spanning die in het materiaal zit heeft de studio weten te bevriezen door de gave bolle vorm, in het proces aan een zijde plat te maken. Doordat het glas vrij wordt geblazen en niet in een mal, is elk stuk uniek, maar zijn ze onderdeel van de familie. Wanneer je langer kijkt zie je het verschil in dikte, kleurintensiteit, afmeting, maar zeker ook in karakter!
Binnen deze verschillen lag de uitdaging een ‘universeel’ lichtelement te ontwerpen, die geplaatst kon worden via de kleine blaasopening van de bel.
Het door de studio ontwikkelde lichtelement is flexibel en volgt zo de binnenvorm als een oneindige lus. Door de subtiele uitstraling van het licht worden innerlijke reflecties, gelaagdheid en kleur uitgestraald door het glas op de omgeving en komt de lamp los van de achtergrond.
Bulla is een combinatie waarin ambacht en techniek samenkomt. De subtiele ophanghaak en het lichtelement zijn door de studio ontwikkeld om de sterke, simplistische vorm van het glas te benadrukken. Het lichtelement loopt als een lus van flexibel led licht over in een 3D geprinte houder. Waarbij met name lokaal en duurzaam is geproduceerd.
